Let’s get something straight. Not all cholesterol is bad. Here’s how the numbers add up:o HDL (good): 40-50 for men, 50-60 for women
o LDL (bad): Less than 100 is desirable
Medical experts like to see an individuals total blood cholesterol level at less than 200. An elevated level between 200-239 might put you at a risk for heart disease. Anything over the top number is considered high risk. Healthy diet and exercise practices are considered two ways to lower your total number, but a family-history that includes high cholesterol can supersede this effort. Bottom line, get checked frequently if your level is over 200.
